Learners Licenses
Congratulations, you’ve turned 14 and are now ready to start driving. You can write your knowledge test at Lethbridge Vehicle, no appointment necessary. The exams are done on the computer – no paper tests.
Please come in before 5 pm Monday to Friday or 3 pm on Saturday, so that you may have enough time to complete your exam. The cost to write the test is $17.00 and after you pass the learner’s license card is $84.45.

Acceptable ID for writing a learner’s license: An original Canadian Birth Certificate or Passport or Canadian Citizenship/Permanent Resident Card – this is a MUST! 2nd piece of identification, such as an Alberta Health card, Indian status, baptism certificate.
If the person writing is under the age of 18, a parent or guardian with their driver’s license (or other Government-issued Identification) must be present at time of writing. *Sorry grandparents can’t give permission unless the client is a legal guardian with guardianship papers)
To receive a Learners License (Class 7) the successful person must pass a knowledge test of 30 questions multiple choice and an eye exam.
Conditions for Drivers in the Learner Stage:
- Must hold a Learner’s License (Class 7) for at least one year if you are 16 or older to be eligible to move to the next stage
- Must be accompanied by a fully licensed (non-probationary) driver who is 18 years of age or older and is seated next to the driver.
- Not permitted to drive between midnight and 5 a.m.
- May not have more passengers than the number of seat belts in the vehicle will have your operator’s license suspended at 8 demerits
- Zero alcohol tolerance
